WHAT IS A PRAXIS GROUP?

Praxis is the “reflection and action upon the world in order to transform it.” (Freire, Pedagogy of the oppressed, p52)

Praxis groups work to:

• Merge theory with advocacy, organizing & action

• Promote critical thinking & analysis

• Activate meaningful responses to social inequalities & injustices

• Support collective learning & growth

• Create shared accountability

Program outline:

  • Meet in-person for 6 months in Mexico City.

  • Potential for virtual group if there’s enough interest

  • Deepening themes:

    • guilt / shame

    • systems shifts

    • what is a gentrifier

    • what is gentrification

  • Taking actions together

  • Gentrification as a system

    • What’s my role?

  • Connect with local organizations & organizers

Learning outcomes:

  • Understand my part in a complex system.

  • Understand levers and what’s already being tried (here and elsewhere).

  • Moving from guilt to responsibility— taking empowered, intentional, critical action.

  • Connect to anti-gentrification/anti-displacement work and networks in CDMX.
